SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON GRENADA RAILWAY SERVICE EMBARGO & SERVICE OBLIGATION

The federal Surface Transportation Board announced today that it has scheduled a public meeting in Mississippi concerning a service embargo that Grenada Railway LLC (GRYR) imposed on a portion of the rail line that Grenada operates between Grenada and Canton, Mississippi.

The meeting will be held on Nov. 15, 2013 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse, 614 Summit St., Winona, Miss. Conducted by Board staff, the meeting will allow stakeholders and the public an opportunity to comment on the effects of the embargo. The meeting will continue until all interested persons or parties have had an opportunity to speak.

On Sept. 20, 2011, Grenada petitioned the Board for permission to abandon approximately 81 miles of its rail line between Grenada and Canton, Miss. On Nov. 10, 2011, Grenada withdrew its petition. However, Grenada embargoed service across part of its line for two years, affecting service to its customers. The Board has substantial concerns about the lawfulness of the embargo.
