SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD ANNOUNCES EXPIRATION OF CHAIRMAN ELLIOTT’S TERM; APPROVES VICE CHAIRMAN MILLER AS ACTING CHAIRMAN AND BOARD MEMBER ANN BEGEMAN AS VICE CHAIRMAN
The Surface Transportation Board announces that the last day of Chairman Daniel R. Elliott’s term, including a holdover period, is today, December 31, 2014. The Board unanimously approved Vice Chairman Deb Miller to serve as the agency’s Acting Chairman upon Chairman Elliott’s departure from the Board and until President Barack Obama designates a Chairman for the agency. The Board also unanimously approved Board Member Ann Begeman to serve as Vice Chairman.
The Board’s action, taken pursuant to Section 701(b)(7) of Title 49, United States Code [49 U.S.C. 701(b)(7)], which provides that the Board may vote to designate a member to act as Chairman during any period during which there is no Chairman designated by the President, was intended to provide certainty and to avoid any possible ambiguity regarding succession.
