SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD
ACKNOWLEDGES REPORTS OF SPURIOUS E-MAIL,
UNAUTHORIZED USE OF ITS E-MAIL LIST

The Surface Transportation Board (Board) today advised recipients of its official “e-mail” news releases that the Board is receiving reports of unsolicited, “junk” e-mail being sent to some of those recipients. The Board stated that it is not the sender of such messages, and that it is reviewing each report of such spurious messages to develop a solution as soon as possible.

While the Board attempts to rectify this problem, it asks registered recipients of its e-mailed news releases to check their own e-mail systems to ensure that they are not inadvertently generating or perpetuating the sending of such spurious messages. To minimize the recurrence of this problem, the Board recommends that individuals not use the “reply” key to send e-mail to the Board. E-mail messages intended for the Board should be addressed to “webmaster@stb.dot.gov.”
