SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD TO HOLD NOV. 16 PUBLIC MEETING IN MISS. ON PROPOSED "GRENADA RAILWAY" ABANDONMENT

The federal Surface Transportation Board announced, on Nov. 4, 2011, further information about its public meeting concerning Grenada Railway LLC's (Grenada) proposal to abandon the southern segment of its rail line near Grenada, Mississippi.

The meeting will be held on Nov. 16, 2011 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse, 614 Summit St., Winona, Miss. Conducted by Board staff, the meeting will allow the public and stakeholders an opportunity to comment on Grenada's proposal. The meeting will continue until all interested persons or parties have had an opportunity to speak.

On Sept. 20, 2011, Grenada petitioned the Board for permission to abandon 81.3 miles of its rail line between Grenada and Canton, Miss. On Sept. 30, 2011, the Mississippi Transportation Commission asked the Board to hold a public hearing in Grenada. The Board's Nov. 4 decision follows the agency's Oct. 25, 2011, announcement that it would hold a public meeting in Mississippi at a time and place to be announced.

The Board's Nov. 4 decision in Grenada Railway LLC—Abandonment Exemption—In Grenada, Montgomery, Carroll, Holmes, Yazoo and Madison Counties, Miss., STB Docket No. AB 1087X, can be found on the agency's website at www.stb.dot.gov.
