SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD NAMES MATTHEW T. WALLEN DIRECTOR OF OFFICE OF GOVERNMENTAL AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Surface Transportation Board Chairman Charles D. Nottingham today announced his appointment of Matthew T. Wallen as the Director of the STB's Office of Governmental and Public Affairs (OGPA).
From April 2003 until his appointment with the Board, Mr. Wallen served as the Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Steven C. LaTourette (Ohio-14th), who chaired the House Subcommittee on Railroads during the 109th Congress (2005-06). As Chief of Staff, Mr. Wallen worked on a wide range of transportation policy issues. He has had extensive experience with a wide cross section of stakeholders interested in rail transportation including rail shippers, railroads, commuter rail and rail labor. Additionally, Mr. Wallen was a staff member for, and ultimately Staff Director of, the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (1997-2003).
Mr. Wallen holds a B.A. in Political Science,
cum laude
, from the State University of New York at Fredonia (1996), and an M.A. in Political Management from The George Washington University (1998).
