SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD UPDATES ITS USER-FEE SCHEDULE

The Surface Transportation Board (Board) announced today its latest update of fees the public must pay to file certain cases and pleadings with the Board. Fifty of the Board's user fees remain unchanged, 28 fees increased by $100 or less, and the other 47 will increase by more than $100. However, the Board's decision maintains the current $350 fee charged to the public to file a railroad rate or unreasonable practice complaint, both of which the Board formally reduced in 2011, as well as the current $150 fee to file an expedited small rate case.

The Board is required to implement modest increases—in this case various increases to the full cost levels ranging up to approximately 4.35%. These full cost level increases are the result of two of the Board's three overhead cost factors increasing.

To facilitate comparison, the Board charted both FY 2012 and FY 2013 fees in Appendix C of its decision.
