SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD'S SECTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS EXTENDS PUBLIC SCOPING PERIOD ON PROPOSED CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILWAY ACQUISITION OF ELGIN, JOLIET & EASTERN RAILWAY

The Surface Transportation Board's Section of Environmental Analysis (SEA) has announced that it is extending to February 15, 2008 the deadline for members of the public to submit comments on the proposed scope of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) being prepared in connection with an application filed by Canadian National Railway and Grand Trunk Corporation (together, CN) to acquire the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway.

Because the proposed acquisition has the potential to result in significant environmental impacts, the Board has determined that the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is appropriate. To help determine the scope of the EIS, SEA has prepared and published a Draft Scope of Study for the EIS, which is available on the Board's Web site (www.stb.dot.gov) under "Environmental Matters," "Key Cases" and "Canadian National Railway-EJ&E Railway," and is also available in English and Spanish by calling 1-800-347-0689.

In response to various requests, SEA is extending the period for commenting on the Draft Scope to February 15, 2008. Comments on the Draft Scope can be submitted in any of three ways:

-->In writing, by mailing comments (which must be postmarked by February 15, 2008) to:
