Statement of Surface Transportation Board Commissioner Linda J. Morgan Marking Her Departure from the Agency

Surface Transportation Board (Board) Commissioner Linda J. Morgan issued the following statement marking today, her final day at the agency:

"Today, I bring to a close my nine years of public service at the Board. On this occasion, I am reminded of how deeply grateful I am for the opportunity to have served the public in this capacity during two Administrations, and to have worked with so many outstanding individuals both inside and outside the agency.

"To Chairman Roger Nober and my past Commissioner colleagues, I offer my sincere appreciation for your courtesy, camaraderie, and cooperation. To the agency's employees, past and present, I offer my heartfelt thanks for your hard work, unparalleled professionalism, and exceptional public service; it is because of you that the agency has become a model of good, common-sense government, and you should feel most proud of what has been accomplished. And for your interest, support, and respect, I am indebted to all the Members of Congress and Congressional staff, Administration and other government officials, and various representatives of the transportation sector with whom I have had the pleasure of working.

"Through the collective efforts of all of you, much progress has been made in improving railroad service, strengthening the Nation's transportation network, and working to achieve the right balance among the various transportation interests. It has truly been an honor and a privilege for me to have been part of this effort. I leave this agency with great optimism about the future."
