PUBLIC & MEDIA ADVISORY: SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BOARD PROVIDES SCHEDULE OF SPEAKERS' APPEARANCES FOR DECEMBER 4 PUBLIC HEARING IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, ON DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY APPLICATION TO BUILD 300-MILE RAIL LINE IN NEVADA


The Surface Transportation Board today provided a schedule of speakers' appearances and their time allocations for the Board's December 4, 2008 public hearing, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the U.S. Department of Energy's application for authority to build the proposed "Caliente Line," a 300-mile rail line that would connect an existing rail line near Caliente, NV, to a proposed geologic repository at Yucca Mountain, Nye County, NV. The speakers' list for the hearing is attached.


The Thursday, December 4 public hearing will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Las Vegas Hearing Facility-Pacific Enterprise Plaza, Building No. 1, 3250 Pepper Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89120.


All visitors to the NRC's facility must present a valid form of government-issued photo identification and pass security screening before being granted access into the building. Cameras are not permitted in the building.


The NRC's facility is located near several Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission public-transit lines, and visitors are encouraged to use public transportation. Parking on public streets near the building is very limited


The Board announced the hearing by a notice issued to the public on October 31, 2008, and published in the November 5, 2008 Federal Register (73 FR 65922). The Board's schedule of speakers' appearances and time allocations was provided in a decision issued today, November 21, 2008, in United States Department of Energy—Rail Construction and Operation—Caliente Rail Line in Lincoln, Nye, and Esmeralda Counties, NV, STB Finance Docket No. 35106. The decision is available for viewing and downloading on the Board's Web site at http://www.stb.dot.gov, under "E-LIBRARY," then under "Decisions & Notices," beneath the date "11/21/08."


The hearing will not be webcast via the Board's Web site because of technical factors. However, the hearing will be recorded, archived, and at a later date made accessible via the home page of the agency's Web site, at http://www.stb.dot.gov, under "Information Center/Past Meetings."
