The Surface Transportation Board met recently with members of the cybersecurity team at the Association of American Railroads (AAR) to receive a briefing on AAR’s cybersecurity work and the rail industry’s cybersecurity planning and preparedness.  The presentation detailed the impressive effort undertaken by the freight rail industry to prevent and deter attacks on the nation’s rail infrastructure in order to avoid disruptions to rail service and critical supply chains.  Through this meeting, the Board was able to gain an informed understanding of the rail industry’s level of cybersecurity preparedness, its partnerships with federal and private-sector cybersecurity stakeholders, and the universe of cybersecurity threats against railroads.
